Is the Power 19 bollocks?

Gregor Hutton's picture

OK,I never make up a Power 19 list for any of my games and I do not have the patience to sit through these long shopping-list length posts of other people's Power 19s. So are they, in fact, as I seem to subconsciously believe bollocks?

Are they just posturing and wordy posting of things that should be self-evident from a succint play document and short ad for your game?

Or do they actually formalise the games design process nicely and help focus minds?

Convince this lazy sod, me, that (a) they're worth reading through, and (b) that I should engage with the process and use it myself.

Doodle Dungeon: Power 19

James Mullen's picture

This is one of those loose ideas that rattled around in the back of my head for years; it was a name and very little else, but then it all came together over about 5 days, starting at CONception. This is what it's all about

1.) What is your game about?
It's a typical fantasy dungeon crawl: monsters, traps, treasures, magic and, of course, heroes.

2.) What do the characters do?
They have a typical fantasy adventure that includes exploring a dungeon or just roaming through a fantasy landscape, trying to achieve immediate goals.

3.) What do the players (including the GM if there is one) do?

[Orbital] Power 19

James Knevitt's picture

Here it is, the Power 19 for Orbital.

1.) What is your game about?**
Orbital is about the people and places found on the Orbital, a million-mile-wide ringworld that orbits the Sun opposite Earth. A hard science fiction setting, it draws upon a lot of real world/contemporary thinking about space exploration and colonization. The Earth of this unspecified future time is on the verge of becoming a post-scarcity society, with limitless energy and near-flawless resource management. However, life on the Orbital is far from perfect. In many ways, it is reminiscent of the frontier challenges of the American west before the US Civil War.

[Everlasting Empire] Power 19

Malcolm Craig's picture

Finally completed a list of Power 19 questions for Everlasting Empire. Hopefully these might offer some further sinsight into what the game is all about.

1.) What is your game about?

Everlasting Empire is about British heroes fighting to uphold the Empire.

2.) What do the characters do?

The characters are all ‘British’ (or, at least, from one of the colonies of the Empire). They are British secret agents, freebooters, explorers or others types of character striving to uphold, advance and defend the British Empire.

3.) What do the players (including the GM if there is one) do?
