I'm just about to launch into doing the layout for a couple of projects I'm publishing this Summer.

I'm doing them via Lulu, so merrily I went to their cost calculator....only to realise I had no idea of what sizes to put in.

So perhaps this question is a bit Lulu biased, but from those with experience what's the best size for the following types;

A magazine with roughly 60 pages

A book with 280 pages.

If you need more info shout out - but be aware I've hit the complete wall of befuddlement on this one.

So, I'm publishing Play Unsafe on Lulu.

How should I get my money from Lulu? They seem to pay you two ways: cheque or Paypal.

The cheques are in US dollars, only, and they'd send it to your home address. Fair enough. I'll have to check how much my bank will charge me to cash it. (Oh, wait, cheques are paid quarterly. That makes a difference.)

PayPal charges a fee on incoming money (about 4% plus 30p). However, they also charge a fee on currency conversions, so it seems I'd have to get Lulu to pay me in British Pounds (which they can if you're doing it via PayPal).

Any hints?

My first post, so I thought I'd start with something helpful: Some useful tips for printing with Lulu.com.

For those of you who have not used Lulu it is a print-on-demand service based in the US, but with a growing operation in the UK.

Anyway whether it is good for actual production runs is a question for another time, but Lulu.com is really great for proofs and test copies etc.

For Broken Shield for example (my game which I'll be yabbering about in more detail later), I got US-Letter sized 460 page hardbacks with full colour covers and B&W interiors for £13.00 each and they will be even cheaper at the moment what with the exchange rate being so good. For prices like that it is hard to avoid. The hardback prints I have had from Lulu have all been outstanding quality and I have been very happy with them.
