Artist Recommendations

Destriarch's picture

After a bit of prompting from Greg, I thought I'd like to share some artist recommendations with everybody. I've worked with all of these guys in the past, and they've all offered a highly professional service.

Jon Hodgson, you know who you are ;) I won't repeat your details now, we all KNOW you're awesome. Other top artists to work with are:

John N. Amore - AKA OmegaRedTooth (RPGNet, Deviantart) worked with me on my most recent release, Fearmonger. His style is perfect for grittier settings, especially horror. Extremely fast, very accommodating, and very enthusiastic too! I gave him only the loosest of briefs and he really ran with them. I owe a lot of the atmosphere of that PDF to Mr Amore.

Michael Jaecks - THE go-to guy for weird creatures and bizarre concepts. Some of his colour creature work just blows me away. Worked with him on an as-yet unreleased demon-based RPG. I think his gallery speaks for itself.

Alfredo Lopez - excellent colour work for covers, and very adaptable in style. He did a cover for me which I'm currently holding back for a supplement that I've yet to get around to writing :| but it looks gorgeous on my wall in the meantime! Extremely reasonable prices, given the quality of the results.

Michael Kingery - the best technical artist I've ever worked with for technological items. If you need vehicles, equipment or anything of that nature, he's brilliant. His style is best for Utopian sci-fi settings.

I'm sure there are others. As they come to me I'll try and post links.

Good idea for a thread!

Cliff Kurowski, did excellent work for both the Nopress Anthology and Covenant. Great for graphic novel style work and comic stylings. Fast and followed specs precisely but with flair.

This thread should come with the standard: pay people properly, promptly and well for their work warning.

Thanks Ash!

www.ninjamountain.net if you're looking for high quality in a variety of styles. NM sits nicely between "big names" and unknowns. Pretty much everyone there has worked for the best, but is still approachable.

Especial recommendations for Edinburgh artist Andrew Hepworth, and English guy Scott Purdy.

I couldn't let this thread go by without mentioning the talents of Paul Bourne.

As well as doing art and graphics design for all the a|state stuff, for Mob Justice, the design for Cold City and all the art for the Companion, he's also done covers for Prince of Darkness Games, Eric J Boyd Designs (an excellent, but not yet released replacement cover for The Committee for the Exploration of Mysteries) and others. He's done CD and books covers nd all sorts of other stuff. Top quality art and design and a wonderful gut as well.

I've worked with Scott Purdy

I've worked with Scott Purdy on many a project, and can only recommend him! His black and white art is fantastic and very distinctive.

I'll have a dig through the ol' memory banks and post my own recommendations too!

Student!

Neil Gow's picture

I just interviewed a student for a graphic design job today. Her work was totally inappropriate for the sort of stuff we wanted but it was AWESOME urban gothic stuff for a horror RPG. Really shit hot. So I approached her after the interview and asked whether she did commissioned work which she said she would love to do! I'm going to get some digital copies of her work to show people but I've got first dibs!

Ask her if she wants to work

Ask her if she wants to work long and thankless hours for less than a pittance, but phrase it as 'the glamorous world of comic books' instead, lol.

That Storn Cook is fairly good....

Got some of his second use stuff very cheap for Legends Walk - Truth & Justice Edition; and a VERY good deal on a new piece for the cover of the upcoming Jaws of the Six Serpents, which some of you saw at Dragonmeet.

Although all I have from them is clipart packs, I also recommend the guys at Octavirate - their stuff was the backbone of the internal art for the Questers line.

Also on a cliparty line, some of the Eastern European guys like The Forge and Peter Szabo Gabor (?) of Eastern Raider are doing great stuff at very reasonable cost.
