Okay not the usual question about moderation ...
I'm setting up a Drupal based forum at work (version 5.2) and I can't work out *how* to get forum posts to require moderation! I really need some users to be able to post without moderation (like all of us here) and some with.
So basically I'd desperately like to be able to set things up like CE is set up .... please help a poor webmaster in need!
We use 4.7.something

So there may be differences. Go to Admin > Access Control. You should see columns for the different user types.
Find the user type you want to have open access and give 'em post comments without approval permissions. For the restricted access give 'em post comments. These options are in the comment module group.

Oh drat, apparently this has been removed in 5.x
I've worked around it (I think) using the moder8 module, which restores the missing functions. Why on earth this was removed I can't imagine!
