Piledrivers & Powerbombs launch party

Gregor Hutton's picture

Hey All

On Saturday night Joe had [edit: stupid typo, 'had' not 'has'] his launch party for Piledrivers & Powerbombs, so it is now officially available.

(Last week in Ireland a pre-launch copy, signed by both Joe and cover artist Paul Bourne, went for 200 Euro in the GaelCon charity auction. Huzzah!)

To celebrate there were two rooms chock full of gamers playing the game and enjoying the bonhomie of Joe and Marie. It was great to see many familiar faces (and their partners) there.

The winner of the Kitchen tournament was The Blob, and he faced off against the only surviving wrestler from the living room, which was my grappler (everyone else from the living room having headed home by this point). So the winner of two fights, The Blob, faced off against the as-yet unproven, but infamous Hollering Hitler!

Yes, I had a short, trailer-park trash wrestler whose gimmick was a cross between Vegas Elvis (with swastika rhinestones) and The Fuhrer. He was a despicable toad and inept at everything except being hated. His finishing move was a Lethal Arm Bomb delivered after smashing an LP over the victim's head. Yes, The Vinyl Solution.

Suffice to say I got my ass kicked by The Blob. It was great to hear the crowd of Kitchen guys chanting "Shitler! Shitler!" then breaking into "USA! USA! USA!" as I was lamped from pillar to post. Hollering did get some offense in, but came unstuck with an unwise choice of Goosestep Kicking into the Blob's well-padded gut. I then foolishly went for an armbar, to set up the Vinyl Solution, and that was that! The Blob squashed me, literally and figuratively.

Good fun, and it was nice to see my odious heel get his just desserts.

Congrats!

Errr... congrats again! :)
Has this been available in PDF previously by the way? I can't shake the feeling that I've seen it on sale somewhere before.

Ash

Yes!

Piledrivers & Powerbombs was previously available from UKG, and it was a slight and underpublicised work, really.

The new Piledrivers & Powerbombs Chokeslam of Darkness Edition, is bigger, bolder and better all round.

The glossy cover with art by Paul Bourne is really sharp. The interior art is clipart I think, but it's an example of it used well and I think it really sets a zany tone.

I have the original P&P but I'll be picking up a print copy of the Chokeslam version at Dragonmeet.

Congratulations - our group are very into pro-wrestling so I suspect we might be picking this up in the future to have a rumble with.

Cheers Gregor

I will try and post an extended AP on the 12 gamer extravaganza that was the P&P:CoD book launch/wild birthday party.

We got through a fair bit of tequila!

Hard to tell from the tidgy version on the website link, but it looks like Poser? If it's not then it's bloody good! Well, it's bloody good anyway, but if it's not been rendered then the artist must be hellishly talented.

Paul renders...

I'm not sure what programs Paul uses to render things, but it is indeed rendered. His art is what makes all the a|state stuff look so good. He's helluva talented and a lovely bloke too.

Oh, the other characters in the living room were Per's Barry-White-esque Hot Lips (?), Susanne's Boy George (yes! the musician fallen on hard times and now wrestling to make money), Joe Murphy's Caveman and The Bagman (with his dump-truck driving Afghan Hound manager).

Not even my Wagner entrance music could save me.

Good Stuff!

Ah, most excellent. It's good to hear that P&P is out there in print and I'm sad to have missed the party (what with being 12,000 miles away and everything). Good work Joe!

I see the book is now available on Indie Press Revolution, and in a double pack with Contenders. Good call. Will you be offering the double pack for sale at UK conventions as well?

As for Pauls art: As Gregor points out, it is indeed rendered, and fantastically so. One of the things that Paul has is an artists eye and he skill to utilise it. Some of the stuff he's been showing me for upcoming books has been spectacular (and that's not to say his owrk previously hasn't been spectacular!).

Cheers
Malcolm
