Current RPG Projects

Hello everyone

I've been working on the Piledrivers and Powerbombs rewrite: Chokeslam of Darkness edition.

The game has grown considerably in length since it's humble 24hr beginnings. Looks like it'll be around 100 pages when finished. I should have the next draft finished by the end of this week. I'm still in need of a front cover though.

Work continues on Best Men, the supernatural Elizabethan setting for Swansong. I'm running a Tuesday night game using this setting, which is fun and informative. The PCs are 'Talented' individuals recruited as spies and agents of Sir Francis Walsingham. I'm working on an extensive timeline and rules tweaks for the first draft. I need to finish reading a bunch of books on the Tudors...

The Dragon vs The Gun is simmering away on the back burner. i want to make a few changes to the rules following my last playtest. I'm keen to play another game of it though, I enjoyed the last one loads.

Looking forward to the first two - Best Men sounds awesome!

Don't know about Dragon vs the Gun - care to enlighten me?

Best Men sounds great, I'm a sucker for Elizabethan Spies. I recommend checking out a book called The Elizabethan Underworld, which has some nice underbelly of society stuff.

Why did you choose this particular setting for Swansong?

The Dragon vs The Gun was

The Dragon vs The Gun was originally a runner up in the third cyle of the Ronnies (y'know the round after me & Gregor won ;) ). It's been re-written since then but the original version is online at the 1km1kt site I think.

DvG is a competitive GMless RPG powered by my D12 based generic omniversal nudge activated dice system. The game plays out as a blood opera between two factions - The Dragonkin, magical folk children of myth and The Slayers, devotees of reason and order.

There's more info on my forums including a detailed AP report.

there's a few changes i want to make following our playtest, but overall, it's looking pretty good!

Hi Matt I'll look out for

Hi Matt

I'll look out for the Elizabethan Underworld, sounds interesting.

I went for this setting mainly because I really like the era and there's loads of cool historical figures I find fascinating. In my Tuesday game the PCs have already met Francis Walsingham, Dr John Dee and Edward Kelly and there have been cameos from Queen Elizabeth and a young Will Shakespeare!

The demo I ran at Dragonmeet deals with the fate of one Christopher Marlowe.

The graphic novel Neil Gaiman's 1603 is also a source of inspiration.

I'm really enjoying researching the setting although this has led me onto the trail of the Necronomicon...

Is there anything that

Is there anything that particularly ties the setting to Swansong? I'm curious, as I wonder if there's anything that could tie things more into the system. Maybe as simple as tying major arcana to those personages somehow... (I forget how Swangsong works, so have no idea if that's possible)

Uncanny Matt, that's what

Uncanny Matt, that's what I've been doing!

As GM, I draw a hand of cards when a scene starts and then use them to represent NPCs or elements I can bring into play.
Swords are always combat encounters. Wands represent those loyal to the Queen or Protestants. Coins indicate those who favour the Spanish or Catholics. Cups are neutral characters.
Then I've got the major Arcana to represent events or major characters (either an actual appearance or a hand in things).

So far I've only used
John Dee=The Magician
Queen Elizabeth= The Empress

I think tying King Phillip of Spain to The Emperor makes sense too and the Pope is the obvious choice for The Hierophant.

In the setting, super-powered indivduals are referred to as Talents, which ties into the talent advantages in the system.

I've got an idea for the Prince of Darkness and his meta-plot, but that would be telling...
