Thieves of Time

Last week, I found the domain name Thievesoftime.com was available. Isn't that great?

Anyway, so I bought it, and here it is: the Thieves of Time online store.

For information, the software I'm using is ZenCart, which is free. With that, I'm using a free stylesheet called End Of Summer. That stylesheet had the rather beautiful eggtimer and, using an cheap image editor, I've replaced the words "End Of Summer" with "Thieves Of Time". If you look closely, you can see the join, but it's not too bad.

My host is Dreamhost, but they're not that reliable. However, they do let you install things like ZenCart easily. I'll look for a better host at some point.

I'd love feedback, as long it's nice feedback, which doesn't necessarily mean positive.

Hey, that's a good name...

...and the acronym isn't offensive.

Um, it's a bit empty at the moment but that's OK!

I've used dreamhost for

I've used dreamhost for years, I run a 10,000 player web game from it and it works fine. Of course I have a dedicated server, I'll admit they have not infrequent downtime but they are so cheap!

Solipsist RPG, on its way ... eventually

OK, nice feedback stuff

Difficult to give feedback without knowing what you're looking to do here. So here's the most generally, general stuff:

For me, response time seemed a bit sluggish. Just a data point. I'd run YSlow over it, as it may be the cart doesn't use optimal methods of delivery so it's just rendering slow.

The contrast on the main navigation isn't sufficient, so on certain monitors and for anybody with lowered ability to perceive contrast (ie people older than 30s) it'll be a pain to use.

Technically on any website for a UK business you have to provide contact details. I can't remember the level you need, but I can dig it out.

Does Zen give you an option for clean urls? ?product_id=1 is a lot less useful that /products/a-reason-to-murder for SEO purposes and human legibility/memorability.

PS Thieves of time is a great name!

Oh, thank you

That's very useful. If you could give out more details, I'd appreciate it.

I need a PO Box, probably. Damn.

Aha, useful stuff is here:

Outlaw summary of E-Commerce Laws, produced by genuine lawyers so more reliable than interweb gossip, though as always real lawyers consulted for specific situations are better.
