Indie Games Meetups (Midlands)

Matt's picture

One of the ideas I've been toying with is local pubmeets for the Collective.

I know there are clusters of folk (the Midlands, the Southeast), who are not quite close enough for a regular weekly game, but can get together for a not-quite-con. An opportunity for people with similar gaming interests to get together, play new games and playtest what folks are working on. Probably for half a day or so.

Thats's the concept anyway.

To avoid being a polling thread, where we all talk about stuff but reach no decisions, the question is not "isn't this a good idea?", but "Who in the Midlands is interested?"

My initial date is 2nd weekend in January. If I get five people who are interested posting here, I'll do some proper organising.

Thought I'd responded to

Thought I'd responded to this. That process of previewing and then submitting probably got me again.

Anyway, I'm interested in principle.

Technically I have interest.

Technically I have interest. It just depends on which bit of the midlands, west or east? If it's Birmingham-way then yes, in principle, if it's over towards Leeds then rather less so... January, however, probably isn't realistic for me. A meet later in the year though? I'm well up for that.

Edit: Of course, sparing a moments thought for WHO is asking the question I can deduce that you are talking about a Birmingham-centric midlands meet, and that I'm an idiot ;o) .

As a Yorkshireman I must protest at the very concept of Leeds being in the Midlands. ;)

I guess the conclusion is

I guess the conclusion is that the site needs to develop more before there's enough interest.

Yes...

I think at the moment interest is muted. Maybe give it a few months.

Or perhaps the start of the new year is just the wrong time.

I think that just after NY

I think that just after NY may well have been a bad time. A lot of people have just come back from holidays and visits to family, etc. and maybe don't feel like trundling over to Brum just yet. I maintain my interest however and will be happy to come along if you do organise something and I don't already have other plans at the time.
