If this is a little out of place then someone feel free to delete it or move it - I was unsure.
As I mentioned in my introductory piece one of my myriad jobs I do at the students' union is run the Print Shop and do all of the print production for the union. Obviously, this means that I can get some pretty decent prices on stuff because (a) we print in bulk and (b) I have those pictures of that printer that his wife never wants to see and (c) hey, I can do some stuff at cost price!
So, for example, I can do A3 colour posters on 120gsm silk for 20-30p a shot and laminate those posters for around 50p. The price is lower for A4 stuff. I reckon I can get 5000 postcard style double-sided A6 flyers, full colour, for around about £65 nowadays. If I was to coincide an order with one of the union' poster runs, I can get A2 full bleed posters for around 0.75-0.95p each (with a minimum of 25 off) and stuff like that. Similarly digitally printed canvas banners, foamex digitally printed noticeboards etc etc.
Is this something that I might be able to help people with - or do you know people cheaper. And if you do who are they?
Neil

I've not heard of prices like that (well, since I knew someone in the print deparment of Strathclyde University in the 1990s).
Yes, that could be very helpful, and as long as we're not doing anything that would get you or your employer in trouble then we're OK.
Certainly we need to get some flyers done for Dragonmeet in the next few months.
No Trouble

Nah, nothings ever going to be a problem like that. Those prices are legit discount on the stuff I can do in-house and straight off our rates for some of the printers. I checked up with one of my printing contacts earlier today and he was cool processing say, a run of 5-6 lots of 25-30 off on A2 posters. That means that if everyone put together a nice piece of 300dpi art (or more, if you like) then I could do a shedload of display posters for about ...(thinks)... £23 per game. I'll have a snuffle around for flyers at 1000-off as well (because 5000 flyers is a lot more than many people realise. It's TONs!! I remember the look on a colleagues face when she demanded I order her 20,000 flyers!). Shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, 5000!

Justin Bow had 5000 flyers for Fae Noir at GenCon. I saw a tonne getting binned at the end of Sunday.
I think Fred did 1000 Indie Passports and they didn't go over 4 days at GenCon.
Still, if we were to put a flyer in every bag at GamesExpo that would be 1k. We could discuss putting flyers in the goodie bags at Dragonmeet with Angus to find out the cost.
I used to do runs of 1000

I used to do runs of 1000 flyers for things at Edinburgh Uni Freshers events, we never did give them all out even with 4-5 people working all day over two or three days
Ahh good times :)
Solipsist RPG, on its way ... eventually

Neil just organised some fliers for me, at very short notice: I phoned him on Monday and they're here today.
1000 A5 fliers and they look and feel great. I'm very grateful to him.

I have, at the print shop I worked at, and it closed down soon after. Be careful you're not offering too deep a discount there, or you could end up tying up the equipment with jobs that don't pay for themselves.
