Speed King is Per's game about racing car drivers, initially talked about here.
I was over seeing Per earlier in the week and he has been doing some work on this.
Per, I didn't get the chance to go through the new things you've done with Speed King, could you elaborate here?
No worries, if you're still working on the changes and would prefer not to.

I'd just like to second this

I'd just like to second this request. And I'm eager to playtest whatever you've got, Per.

Goddamit. Well, the basic

Goddamit.
Well, the basic outline of what will eventually be Speed King the story game had beed left stewing in its own juices for a while. Then Sunday evening I got a thought, as it happens, and I pulled out the scribbled notesheets, the makeshift player sheet and took some important decisions.
The Race is essentially an extended conflict in the game - the same basic mechanic will be used for all conflicts. As I've described earlier, each lap in the race is a test between Control and Speed. Simliarly ohter conflicts will be resolved via other opposed tests.
Drivers are described in 4 Attributes, each divided into pairs of opposites, aligned to cards as reds or blacks. Like this:
EMOTION
Love (red)-Hate (black)
DRIVE
Dream (red)-Nightmare (black)
SKILLS
Technique(red)-Cool(black)
WHEELS
Downforce(red)-Torque(black)
Players only have a very sketchy idea of what kind of driver they are controlling - play itself will tell. My so far driver creation involves answering eight questions, two under each Attribute. When you answer a question, you make up a new trait for your driver based on your answer. This could be the name of a person, a personality trait, a place, a thing or whatever you come up with.
One more thing. Draw one card at random for each new trait you have just come up with - the colour of the card will tell you whether the new trait goes under the left-hand red side or right-hand black side under each Attribute.
So, if I under Emotion answer "Who is the most important person to you?" with "My mother Greta" and draw a black card, then I list "Greta, mother" under Hate under EMOTION. Makes sense? So eventually a driver sheet could look along these lines:
EMOTION
Love - Hate
James Stewart movies - Greta, mother
Ulrika, girlfriend -
DRIVE
Dream - Nightmare
Withdrawing from racing - Dying in flames
You get the picture, I hope. Here are the initial kick-off questions:
EMOTION
Who is the most important person to you?
How good a friend are you?
DRIVE
What is your worst fear in life?
What will you do when you stop racing?
SKILLS
What is your nickname among drivers, journalists, enemies?
What makes you an outstanding racecar driver?
WHEELS
What type of car are you driving?
Who is your preferred mechanic?
Ahem. Ask away.
