[Cold City] Miniatures

Gregor Hutton's picture

Now, I have been looking about for figures to use with playtesting Freie Stadt and I came across some figures that would be ideal for Cold City.

Now, I know that you don't have to use figurines to play but perhaps some people want to. In which case...

...this Weird War miniatures page is perfect!

The German Geneticists are soooo asking to be used in a game of Cold City.

I've been mainly browsing the civilians page and uniformed troops.

Very nice. The zombie Hitler

Very nice.

The zombie Hitler youths on the 2nd page are particularly creepy ...

Tannhäuser

The Tannhäuser board game miniatures should work well too. Check out the promo video.

Heh perhaps you should make

Heh perhaps you should make some miniatures of your own? I know people that can cast in copper from a wax original, and I'll bet it wouldn't be insurmountably hard to find casters who could also do plastic, white metal and pewter too :D

Casting costs for short runs are typically £1 + cost of metal in the jewellery trade, and I bet you could get bulk discounts from the right people. All you need is someone who can carve wax and you're golden :D

Oh, additional: I happened

Oh, additional: I happened across these guys recently, some of their models might prove useful too. It's mostly sci-fi but there's some great zombie horror models and odd civilian ones too, especially the commuter with his briefcase and umbrella.

Thanks

Thanks for the link, Ash.

I know Chris Loizou of Cursed Empire has large ranges of figures available for his game, but I feel that it's a long haul to make money on them.

I'm not sure Malcolm ever envisaged Cold City using figures. I don't know if Malcolm can comment on that? But I do know that some people like using them for gaming in general.

Personally, I feel that I'm happy with the choice of figures that third parties can provide. And I'm working on a Fantasy game that works best with figures. These days most people around here use Lego and Play Mobil!

Probably :)

It's extremely likely that you're right, but it'd be pretty interesting to experiment with short runs, see if it could be made economical and if there'd be any interest in it in the long run.

Oh, I think...

Oh, I think that there could be interest (more money to be had) if they were less "gaming pieces" and more like collectible things.

However, I feel that I prefer to be less diversified and just stick to my core business.

As it is there are a few sculptors about, but that could probably be taken to a different thread. So I'll do that!
