[Reel Adventures] 15/20 minute demos

Iain McAllister's picture

As Matt requested I have spun this off from the Expo discussion. Reel ADventures is a hard one to show in 20 mins because I need to show the mechanical trick of how depth, momentum and presence operate. I could just start the game at the start of act 3 with one person ready to be 'swept awat' allowing for a nemesis scene, and then letting everything else flow as normal.

Thoughts appreciated as normal.

Cheers

Iain

You might not be able to

You might not be able to show off all your cool tricks in 15 minutes, but it should be possible with a bit of work.

Maybe come up with a few sample movies, much like Gregor does for his Best Friends demo, that people can pick. Give them a character each and go round the table getting them to frame a scene, then aggressively frame them into a conflict/pitfall.

Once everyone has had a scene, have a nemesis scene and leave it on a cliffhanger!

Assets

I think your biggest asset is the shared cultural knowledge of action movies. This is where RA shines, so you should play to that strength.

Go with act two or three, but pick something really familiar in feel. So you need little pre-existing understanding.

Yeh, something like Die

Yeh, something like Die Hard. Then you can launch in with: "you're 3 embittered cops about to finish for Christmas. The president has been abducted by the evil villain. Go."

EDIT: and wheeee! over this thread goes to the demo forum!
