OK, anyone who volunteers to cook something, please say so here!
Claire and I are providing food for Friday evening. I will also cook breakfast each day (although I'm not sure I can do 9 breakfasts without help). I will lay in supplies of eggs, beard for toasting, bacon, sausages and baked beans for this purpose.
There are therefore 4 meals needing to be constructed from somewhere:
Sat Lunch
Sat Dinner
Sun Lunch
Sun Dinner
(I have to admit that I like the idea of going for a curry for dinner Saturday night, but that's just me)
If you're awesome enough to volunteer to cook one of these meals, please do the following:
1) Post here to let everyone know.
2) Say if you want help.
3) Arrange for the enough ingredients to be present at Meadowview Cottages. That means buying the stuff yourself or getting someone else to. Or you could probably get Waitrose to air-drop supplies or something.
4) Arrange for any special equipment you need. That means anything like decent knives, slow cookers, whatever. If you can bring your own pans and stuff without too much problem, do so.
Bear in mind that you are catering for 9 people though!

I'm all for curry too!
I can either cook fajitas one night or lunch, OR I can take on the persona of sandwich chef, bring my panini maker and rustle up some awesome paninis for lunch one/both days.
I'll volunteer to be a breakfast sous-chef too.

I second curry on Saturday night.
Can I vote for Scott's Japanese food on Sunday night?

I'm happy to cook for one
Submitted by Malcolm Craig on Tue, 08/05/2007 - 16:05.
I'm happy to cook for one slot: Thai green curry, meatballs in sauce, home made burgers (might be good for lunch), etc.
In fact, why don't I do home made burgers for one lunch?
Also: highly dubious about Japanese, as I have a seafood allergy. Sorry.
Cheers

I'm anti seafood too, but I don't think japanese has to equate to fish!
I sense someone needs to
Submitted by Graham W on Tue, 08/05/2007 - 22:22.
I sense someone needs to make a decision, and I'm actually quite drunk, so let me try.
Friday evening: Bolognese alla Stokesa
Saturday breakfast: Traditional Stokes breakfast
Saturday lunch: Craig Burgers
Saturday dinner: Curry
Sunday breakfast: Bacon And Eggs Stokes Style
Sunday lunch: Fajita Kenricci
Sunday Evening: Dorwarde Japanese No Seafood
As I say, I'm slightly pissed, so do correct me if that's rubbish.

Are you always slightly pissed Graham? And that sounds splendid to me, although I notice your skillet will go unused ...
Fish-free Japanese Food
Submitted by Scott Dorward on Tue, 08/05/2007 - 22:33.
The meal I was planning is entirely fish-free, or at least it will be if I leave the bonito flakes out of the stock. It's called Parent and Child, and involves chicken and egg cooked in mirin (sweetened Sake). I'll probably also do some miso soup as a starter. Does this appeal?
If I get time, I'll also bake some cookies or shortbread to bring along.
Yum! Miso soup! Although

Yum! Miso soup! Although Parent and Child sounds ever so slightly sinister, like something you might find in a Dead of Night scenario.

That's why I like it: it's tasty _and_ sardonic. Who could ask for more?
I will happily lend hand in

I will happily lend hand in anyway I can. I can be a bit of a morning person so will happily help out with breakfasts. I can even whip up some pancakes with bacon and maple syrup if required. Will need to get supplies when I get there though.

I would like to endorse the Walmsley Menu. Drunk or otherwise.
Oh, and coffee. Not instant, French roast if possible, strong. I cannot stress this point strongly enough. There will be a coffee maker of somekind, won't there?

If there's no coffee maker, I'll happily bring a cafetiere.
Andrew, I'm not often drunk; it's just that when I do have a pint or two, I like to post on the Internet when I get home. This is not always a good thing.

Walmsley menu it is then. That sounds ideal.
Graham, yes, bring a cafetière. I doubt there will be such facilities at the cottage. (although I might be wrong)
What about things like

What about things like teabags, milk and the like?
Also, what are we doing with paying for food - are we splitting the costs between us?
Costs
Submitted by Rich Stokes on Wed, 09/05/2007 - 11:27.
First:
If you want to make sure it's there, bring it yourself or make sure someone does. Tea bags, coffee, sugar, lavender scented soap etc. bring them yourself.
Second: If you are cooking, bring everything you need. That means, yes, you're buying all the ingredients. Which, yes, will be expensive for the people cooking. Which would be rubbish if this was not addressed.
People buying food:
Malcolm - Burgers
Andrew - Fajitas
Scott - Scary Chicken
Claire - Spag Bol
Rich - Breakfasts
So not buying food is:
Iain
Janos
James
Graham
The idea is to make sure these guys buy about the same value of stuff as everyone else, without getting anally retentive about it.
So if you're NOT cooking anything or buying ingredients, you need to make that up somehow. I'm tempted to say "buy beer/wine/whatever for the people who do cook", but that seems a little unfair. Slightly fairer might be that those not cooking or buying ingredients pay for the curry on Saturday night? But again, a bit likely to be unfair.
What strikes me as better might be:
Iain, split the cost of burger stuffs with Malcolm.
James splits the cost of Scary Chicken with Scott.
Janos splits the cost of the Fajitas with Andrew.
Graham gives Claire something towards the Spag Bol.
I'll cover breakfast. HOPEFULLY there will be enough left over from people's contributions to cover that without me getting totally bankrupted.
Does that sound OK?
Everyone brings their own booze.
Everyone pays for their own curry (Except me, who'll inevitably end up paying for Claire's too ;)
I bring mucho Milk.
If there's anything left out (ie, which we realise we don't have on Friday evening) we can pop to Long Buckby and pick it up before we get pissed.

I've asked Janos to pop his head in about his allergy - it's not as simple as wheat though, but I always get it muddled so best leave it to him to explain!

Submitted by Rich Stokes on Wed, 09/05/2007 - 11:47.
He emailed to correct me last night, it's actually dairy and not wheat so much.
He said pasta was fine for example, but that he wouldn't be adding cheese to his. Although I got the impression that a small amount of butter or whatever used in cooking wouldn't be a problem. Just no milkshakes.
Hopefully he will confirm that/correct me!

Since I'm bringing the cafetiere, let me also bring coffee and tea.
I'll also bring great fucking bucketloads of wine. Well, a few bottles.
I'm happy to chip in for Claire's spag bol: if she'll accept a bottle of wine in exchange, even better, otherwise she can have a tenner or whatever.

Food glorious food!
Submitted by Janos Bornemisza on Wed, 09/05/2007 - 22:14.
This all sounds great - I'm certainly happy with splitting cost of Fajita's with Andrew and chipping in for curry/drinks etc to cover my not buying food.
I'm also more then happy to line-chef if anyone wants help with their cooking; I can chop, slice, mix, boil...whatever is required. Plus of course washing up duty.
Just to confirm my allergies - yes my primary one is dairy. However small amounts of milk/butter/etc used in cooking isn't going to bother me - I just shouldn't eat raw cheese, drink milkshakes and so on. I'll be bringing soya milk/butter for my tea/toast anyway so its there if anyone wants to use it, but generally don't worry - I won't die ;-)
Otherwise the food all looks great, both from the persepctive of my allergies, and yummy deliciousness.
