I was having a think about how we might do stuff at Spodley, and whether it would be worth doing workshops or anything.
But what I've come up with is similar to the idea we're doing at Conpulsion, which in turn is nicked from Dreamation - the games design roundtable.
So, every day, maybe over lunch or dinner or something, we'd all gather and just chat about our games, but in a fairly organised, schedule session. So, I might say "well, I'm having trouble with this mechanic" and we'd natter about that for a bit, and maybe I'd go off and tweak it and playtest it and then the next day I might report back and we'd discuss some more.
I thought it might provide some nice structure to the whole thing, get people talking about their games and games design and get everyone in on the whole process.
What do people think?

Sure, I'd do that. We can always do one on the first night and, if it's good, do it on the other nights too.

I had a provisional schedule
Submitted by Rich Stokes on Thu, 01/03/2007 - 13:05.
I had a provisional schedule I was going to post that went something like this:
9AM - 10AM Breakfast & chatting.
10AM - 2PM "Hardcore" Playtest session. Probably split into 2 lots of 90 mins with 30 mins for discussion, feedback and snacks.
2PM - 3PM lunch, including, y'know, chatting about what the playtests were like.
3PM - 7PM Other games/"Softcore Playtest". People who have either a published game, a finished game or one in late playtest should run them.
7PM - whenever - Chatting, boardgames and beer. I have some board/card games that I think people might like to see because they have interesting almost-rpg like mechanics (The Big Idea, Lord Of The Rings, Ca$h & Gun$ etc). I like the idea of a relaxed ending to the day.
Anyway, that's the vague idea I had.

Me and Malcolm were saying evenings would be a good time to run published games (Dogs, PTA, Burning Wheel etc etc), leaving the daytime free for playtesting, so that sounds good to me. That way the daytime playtesting doesn't get muddled up or distracted at all.
Play people's games

I'd very much like the chance to play the CE games I haven't played yet. Like, er, the ones that aren't Contenders. Since Malcolm and yourself are there, it'd be great to play Cold City and DoN.

I have about 10 different DoN scenarios that can be run at the drop of a hat, so I'm sure that can be arranged!
On one condition - I think we should have a game of Umlaut involving EVERYBODY!

ROCK!!!!!
Yeah that is a great idea. I would definetley like to play other memebers games and agree that finished games should be left to the evening. I could bring my WII if their is a decent TV in our accomodations. I have 4 controllers so much tennis etc. could ensue.
I will be bringing Reel Adventures, probably a print version by then, Revenge of the BMovie, also completed by then, STITCH for definite and whatever else I have by then.
I would be happy to run Mob Justice in one of the slots and would also relish the chance to try out PTA and Mountain Witch.

I think that having time to run published games int he evenings is good and I'd like to see that.
Is there a need for us to bring electronic games? We're already going to have plenty to do and talk about without Wii/PS3/X-Box 360 interference.
