[The Agency] Free PDF and musing on the Nopress Anthology

Matt's picture

A while ago we sold the last of the Nopress Anthology and Luke is winding down the project. It's been 4 years, so that's a good span and it sold about 150 print copies all told. It made me a small amount of cash.

Most of all it was a project that I was really proud to be a part of. It was one of the early community collaboration projects that really sang, due in a large part to Luke being at the helm. Most of the designers involved went on to do even cool stuff (Polaris, With Great Power, Fastlane, Unsung and Do to name a few) and it was a pleasure to be part of that group.

It taught me a few lessons. Firstly that people pulling together online can produce great work if managed well and they pool skills. Secondly, that comp copies often just end up on a pile that never gets read ,let alone reviewed, as an indie guy you're better off fostering play. Thirdly, that publishing a game is a great excuse to travel!

Anyway, what this means is that my contribution to that august tome, The Agency - a game of 60s spies vs the supernatural, is going on my site as a free download. It's actually been a download for a while in a much reduced form on the old Realms Ezine site, but now you get the lovely layout and illustrations too. Which is nice.

It's not my favourite design. Pieces of it make me cringe a bit now, it's way too handwavy of things for a start. I wasn't as adept at playtesting process then either and it shows around the edges, but the Karma stuff is still neat and the setting tone is something I'm really rather pleased with. So anyway, check it out, it's free.
