[Revenge of the B-Movie!] Hits the 100 mark.

Iain McAllister's picture

Hi folks,

I am delighted to announce that I have just hit 100 copies sold of 'Revenge of the B-Movie!'. Sold the first copy off IPR last night which pushed me over alongside finally selling one over the BGG marketplace. Yay. Trumpets etc.

Looks like IPR is starting to get going now, another 1 today. Now I just need to get it into more shops! Anybody got any suggestions how I do that other than making it available through Esdevium. I would like to do as many direct as I can before then.

Cheers

Iain

The only way to guarantee it

The only way to guarantee it will get into shops is to speak to them yourself and sell direct that way. Otherwise it's a case of waiting for IPR to sell to stores. The other methods of getting into distribution (ie via three tier distribution) are likely to really hammer your profit margins.

It's worth pointing out that

It's worth pointing out that IPR pretty much is a 3 tier distributer (albeit one with very reasonable rates) when it sells to retail for you. Arranging to ship directly to the retailers (e.g. Leisure Games in the UK) is a better bet.

This is true enough

This is true enough David.

Problem with selling directly to retailers is that your scope and reach is always going to be limited by how many you can contact directly, and how many are willing to deal directly with you. I bet that number isn't high.

No indeed, I've barely

No indeed, I've barely managed about three. For that reason I personally think that the cost of selling to retailers through IPR is fine (though see some recent Livejournal discussions for a lot of people with the opposite view), even if it really cuts into profits.

Of course if you wanted to see your game on the shelves of high street toy stores then direct contact with the chains concerned is the only way. I was in Holland recently and saw a lot of Knizia games on the shelves in normal toy stores there, which was very nice.

Oh and congratulations Iain :)

IPR vs. Esdevium

Yeah I am fine with the percentage IPR take, no problems there and things have started to sell through them now. However, Esdevium take buy at about 60% of RRP/MRSP which really cuts my margins. For this run I am going to see about getting in contact with more shops directly, already done quite a few that way, and seeing if they want to take it. I think I will basically take the hit on P&P to retailers as well just to sweeten the deal.

Cheers
