Continuum was excellent. One issue raised by others was they couldn't get in a game often - didn't happen to me, I was booked the whole time, but then I ran some games too.
CE should look at scheduling and try to get some representation there for 2010. Long way off I know, but it plays to plan ahead... ;)
Loads of people were eager for games. Many had cash and couldn't find something to purchase. Talk about shooting fish in a barrel, seriously guys, get yourselves there for next time.

I think this time round it

I think this time round it was just an unfortunate case of bad timing - most of us had something else on this weekend! Next time I'll try doubly hard to make it, even if it's just me!

Circumstance

I hear you Gaz. I was all ready. The geordie gaming crew had primed the FunMobile and we were ready for a sortie south and then some **** made me redundant and well, it all went pear shaped. Talking to Newt, it sounds like an amazing convention as well, which only makes things worse.
Next stop: Furnace ... cunningly paid for in advance, so no problems there!

The CE should move heaven and earth to be there in force.
You'd fit right in with the ethos of the con. The attendees will love your games, 3:16 got a good showing as did A|State and Hot War.
The organisers would accommodate you - you could either have your own stall or piggy back on the back of their stall (like I did), if there was enough games they would sort you out a room all for your own use (again like they did for me).
Think Furnace with three times as many people.

Definetley sounds like something to consider, and I have some questions.
Was there a big indie presence there or are the games more old school?
Do they cover a wide variety of genres?
Is it purely roleplaying or is there other stuff going on?
Cheers

Old skool but indie

Alot of the games are old skool since it was a Chaosium Fan con, so there's historically lots of Cthulhu, BRP, HeroQuest . But theres a sizeable indie stream - Ive run Burning Wheel there, Neil ran 3:16 and lots of Savage Worlds gets run.
Do they cover a wide variety of genres?
Yes - although traditionally a Chaosium con, they have branched out over the last three Continuums.
Is it purely roleplaying or is there other stuff going on?
Lots of boardgames and Freeforms. Its a great medium sized con where different types of gamer mingle without being arsey with one another.
Go and have a look at their website (www.continuum.net.uk) and you'll get a good idea of what goes on.

In addition to what Newtski said...
One Committee member anounced it was a Glorantha Con in the closing ceremony. I know at least one other committee member was saying how it wasn't before and during the weekend...
It has its roots in Chaosium / Glorantha type stuff and there is a good chunk of that going on and a group of people to whom that's what it will always be about. However, for an increasing percentage, its just a really fun, well run con.
There was a massive variety of games - aside from those above there were things like Unknown Armies, Monsters and Other Childish Things, D&D, Spirit of the Century etc., plus several board games (Dune, Last Night on Earth, plus others from a big box available to loan out) and miniatures type stuff in terms of Greg Privats stuff and several slots of Heroscape etc.
To say no indie was promoted particularly or even encouraged, there were plenty of sessions of small press games. They're certainly not discouraged I wouldn't have said, its just not on the agenda of the committee per se. That's my view anyway.
Generally its more old school, but anyone who wants to run games is welcomed with open arms. Its like Furnace's big brother. With extras.
Be There

Continuum has its roots in Chaosium and Gloranthan/Pendragon gaming but has long since developed around these. Lots of Cthulhu and Savage, but anything goes. The convention welcomes all expressions of roleplaying games and really isn't very interested in particular lables be they 'Indie' or otherwise. Good games are found everywhere and we'd like to encourage as many of them as possible at Continuum.
CE were asked this time around, but unfortunately couldn't make it this time around. I hope it makes your convention calendar for 2010. You'd sell product, run and play a lot of nice games.
See you there.

To give an example...

I ran three games at Continuum, and played in two.
I ran Mongoose Traveller (old skool), and 2 different Conspiracy of Shadows games (Indie), and played 3:16 (Indie) and WordPlay (as yet unreleased Indie).
If I'd had time I had planned to run Sufficiently Advanced (Indie) and a Blade Runner WordPlay riff but work scuppered that plan.
Pretty much anything goes there. It is far less BRP/HQ/Glorantha than it was the first time I went (well, actually, that was the 2002 pre-Continuum Con that Continuum replaced).
