[Things of Interest] July 2008

Hmm, everyone has been so busy this month doing stuff, but I thought I'd put this here so I can find it again in the future.

This thread on The Forge is a doozy: it starts off with a game of Primetime Adventures that's not going well and it gets analysed. You'll need a pack of cigarettes or maybe a four-pack of beer. But if you have the time it's worth settling down and working your way through it. The sharply focused posts on page 2 are worth the time spent reading it alone.

It pretty much summarizes two years of struggling with "stakes" since 2006, which was in itself sparked by the explosion of stakes in 2005.

Hardcore.

Mindblowing - I missed that

Mindblowing - I missed that thread, thanks for pointing it out, Gregor.

Chris Kubasik is trying to collect enough money to publish a playing guide to Sorcerer - you can pledge money here (if Chris doesn't get $1500 within the deadline, the book will not happen and you don't have to pay - win-win!)

I vaguely remember that Malcolm has a brit-future game in the works so I thought I had better flag up the rather excellent Dan Dare series by Virgin Comics, which has just wound up this week

http://www.virgincomics.com/root_dandare/dandare.aspx

It started ok and then really picked things up towards the end. Ennis doesn't pull any punches (who knew?!) and some of the topics that are touched on in the last issue could have done with more exposition in earlier ones. Its great stuff though, with some excellent hyper-cliched navy in space stuff.

Thanks for the pointer to

Thanks for the pointer to Dan Dare Neil. Have already added the omnibus hardcover to my amazon wish list so I can grab it when it comes out.

The taster on the website was very well done and definitely had me hooked, but then I've always been partial to Garth Ennis' work.
