So, I sometimes get mail, and more often than not from great people.
Some background: (1) Rob Donoghue is a great guy and has been a supporter of Best Friends from Day One, literally. Hell, I even crammed into a photobooth with him, Em and Clinton at GenCon last year. You cannot find anyone, with any sense, online who has a bad word to say about Rob. He's a gent, and a big reason that Spirit of the Century and FATE are so successful. (2) My second year at University I ran a game that I consider to be my artistic peak of GMing. It was a game of Pendragon and the players were great, and not all of them were self-associating gamers. It had passion, betrayal, loyalty, honour and drama, and above all we told great stories. So, you could say that I have a soft spot for Pendragon.
So, when Rob Donoghue e-mails me about Pendragon I listen.
Rob writes: "A friend of mine is running a Pendragon game, and he asks me for suggestions about how to better tie the characters together, because he's been in games where I've done tricks to make that happen. I say to him, "Man, so Pendragon's all about the traits and passions, right? You completely need to rip off Best Friends and make everyone look at everyone else in terms of X is more Y than me."
So he tried it, and it works like a charm, so much so that he writes it up to the Pendragon mailing list, where Greg Stafford remarks that he thinks it totally rocks."
Some days I feel like walking on water. Today is one of them.*
*To be fair, not just because of Rob. :-)
