[Hot War] Be Vigilant!

Malcolm Craig's picture

Hot War is now in the final stages of proofing and typesetting, ready to go to print in the very near future. Hot War is a game all about friends, enemies, secrets and consequences in a 1960's, post-apocalypse London that most certainly isn't swinging.

As part of our continuing endeavours to let people see what the game is going to be like, here's another poster and art piece from the game. And may I say that Paul is really outdoing himself with Hot War. The graphic design is outstanding, the artwork brilliant and it all comes together to really bring alive the world.

In the near future, some PDFs will be available to let you see how this is all looking in situ. But for now, be vigilant and keep your ID on you at all times...

In addition to the visual stuff, the (un-proofed) text of the conflict resolution mechanics for the game is available over at the Contested Ground Studios forum.

Mind the stairs

Very nice indeed. It's great to see the whole game starting to come together. That art is beautiful - is that staircase a real place? Looks kinda twisted in and of itself.

It's all real, every last

It's all real, every last bit of it.

The staircase is from a WW2 artillery fortress I took some photos of. Everything blended together by Pauls magic.

Tip. Iceberg

Neil Gow's picture

Just looked through the final document last night and I have to say that this art is just the tip of the iceberg. It is a beautiful artifact of a book and quite possibly the first indie game that I might consider buying if it had the full hardcover, expensive paper treatment. As a product of art as an integral part of the game, its superlative.

Well done Malc and Paul.

Having seen the PDF, I'm in

Having seen the PDF, I'm in the same place. I'd order a hardcover in a flash!

Hardback

Thanks guys, that's very heartening to hear. Truth be known, a special edition, red cloth bound hardcover was something we were considering for a very limited (less than 50 copies) special edition run of the game, but it just wasn't feasible given current timescales.

If we ever decide to do it, we'll let you know!
