[Hot War] Character Sheet

Malcolm Craig's picture

The character sheet for Hot War is now available to view.

Yes, it is pretty sparse, isn't it? The design inspiration was identity papers, which tend to lack a lot of graphic design. All the game aids (game creation sheets, NPC sheets etc) will be in the same minimalist style, using the same typewriter-style typeface.

I almost want it to be a bit stained

Or tattered around the edges.

It almost looks a bit too

It almost looks a bit too functional and plain. As Matt says, some distressing, such as tattering, stains or creases, would make it look much more authentic!

Printer ink

Malcolm Craig's picture

The tattering and distressing thing is totally understandable. However, one thing that I'm very aware of is printer ink usage. All those little tatters and marks use up ink. Hence the reason I'd rather have something plain and functional looking over something that uses up the resources of the customer.

That being said if there is a way we can do that in a very minimalist manner, then it could be done.

Within the universe of character sheets, you can afford to graphic it up a bit.

I agree that it does look

Adrian Price's picture

I agree that it does look awfully plain as is. What about some kind of official-looking letterhead or logo? E.g.WWII ration book-type logo and type-written serial number:

Or perhaps structure it like a passport-sized official ID or warrant card, with watermarks and 'Do not tamper, property of London Provisional Authority/MoD/your equivalent'?

Actually a couple of different variations would be *really* cool - a military-style pass, civilian ID papers or police warrant card format to suit your chosen character concept, all with a 'special clearance' notation somewhere. Maybe too much effort, but I think a lot of flavour could be added this way.

Cheers,
