Paul is busy beavering away with the art and design for Hot War (and it's looking great), so I thought we could share a couple of snippets from the game.
First off, we have some pallid creatures squirming through the sewers of London:

And then we have one of the chapter heading posters:

Much of the background information in the game is give through the medium of posters, memos, diaries, letters and so forth. Each chapter head will have a poster which gives additional info about the world.

Beautiful art from Paul! No surprises there, of course - he just keeps getting better and better.
I really like the idea of delivering exposition through in-game artefacts - it's nice to see something you tried with the Cold City dossier come full-circle and make it's way into the core of a game. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. So, what's the final game's mix of background text to background artefacts?
Thanks chaps. As for the

Thanks chaps.
As for the divide between artifact-based background and straight text based background, I'm not sure of the exact divide. However, in the main background chapter, there will be 14 different pieces of artifact-text, ranging from a lengthy diary to one page posters. There will also be an additional poster at the start of each chapter, which makes another 6. So in all, there will be around 20 pieces of in-game artifacture (is that even a word?) to give added resonance to the world.

Slight tangent

I was thinking about other games that have gone this route, and remembered that Games Workshop went through a very long phase of just having artefacture (if it's not a word already, it is now) as the background in its Codexes and Army Books. So instead of a bit of background on each unit or character, there'd be an extract from a journal or an intercepted transmission or a wanted poster.
It worked well enough, but without the wider context of background text, it floundered somewhat, leaving the reader (well, me) feeling a bit unsatisfied. Notably we've gone back to books with just background text nowadays, but it was an interesting experiment.

That is true. The 'Come To Daddy' video does have a bleak horror that is certainly part of Hot War. I feel there could be a few good sessions of the game revolving around old ladies being hunted down by identically faced children.

Hey, you know Sam Araya (http://paintagram.blogspot.com/)? He's always talking about how he would like to see more integration of content (be it copy or illustrations) with graphics and layout. And I think he has a really strong point.
Nice to see someone doing it! :)

Damn you guys and you're lovely art! You raise the bar too high for us artistic nobodies!
Nice stuff.
I like the use of memos, posters etc for background, especially in a game that is based in a version of the real world.
