[Reel Adventures] Skeletons in the Closet

Iain McAllister's picture

Hi guys,
One thing I have had in the rules for Reel Adventures for a while is a personal nemesis for each character. The idea is that although all the heroes in a film face up to the nemesis of the plot, each of them also has to overcome something personal as well. When a hero overcomes their skeleton they get more impetous to go on and take down the big bad of the story.

Firstly, does this seem like a good thing to add?

Secondly, how do I get this to work? The problem I am having is that if a player overcomes their skeleton too early in the plot it doesn't feel right. However a pure restriction to act 3 or 4 seems too much like a force. What I need is a way to have their skeleton be overcome at precisely the right moment. Overcoming the skeleton could maybe become less difficult over the course of the plot.

Anybody want to pitch in?

Cheers
Iain

Maybe a PC has to be swept away by the plot for the skeleton to emerge and only after can they overcome it.

Very nice idea Joe. I'll take that:-) I have added this into the rules with a bonus if you overcome your skeleton. I have made a skeleton an optional thing to have, but I feel it should maybe provide a penalty if you do have one, that is until you overcome it.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure about the

I'm not sure about the penalty. Surely the existence of the skeleton and the complications it can cause should be sufficient?

I am certainly coming round

I am certainly coming round to that way of thinking Andrew. The version you have for Conception has no penalty.
