[Revenge of the B-movie] Getting it out

Iain McAllister's picture

Right I am fed up having this awesome game sitting on my desk doing nothing and really need to get it out to the public. It is ready to go as far as I can tell. I have several options and would appreciate feedback.

1) Print it properly: This is going to cost somewhere inthe region of £1000 for about 500 decks, through my current printer of choice. The downside is their boxes are a little flimsy and I will have to reduce the deck another 8 cards which will mean more testing. Also they dont send out a proof, you have to pay for that.

2) PDF it: Proabably going to do this regardless as it will cost me little. Don't want to only go down this route.

3) Print it myself properly: This would involve some card cutting equipment, not too expensive, but a lot of time and effort on my part. I would also need a new printer I would reckon.

4) Blue peter it: Now I am thinking about this at the moment until I track down a printer. I can buy sets of blank cards from the states. I then print, onto paper, the fronts and backs for each deck. Those are then cut out, with a guillotine or similar, and put with the blank cards into deck protectors. That is then put into a deck box, if I can find those for sale anywhere. I am going to mock this up soon to calculate price per deck. Do you think people would go for this? It will look very amateur.

The more professional-looking the better

Unfortunately with a card-based game halfway solutions like PDF are going to be much less acceptable to users than for a book of words.

I wonder whether it'd be worth your while to drop an email to Angus Abranson in case he has any contacts who could do a print job closer to what you want.

I think I saw Guild of Blades talking about being set up for printing cards over at RPGnet. Based on forum talk I don't know what they'd be like to deal with, but you could check it out.

Angus is a great suggestion,

Angus is a great suggestion, thanks Tim. I hadn't thought of that for some reason.

PDF is most definetley a second tier idea, I want the thing out in a physical form as well.

£1,000 is a lot to sink all

£1,000 is a lot to sink all at once. I'd suggest you get no more than 50 sets, as pretty as possible, to see if you can shift them at cons and occasional shops. Even if they cost £3 or £4 a deck.

POD Cards

Are Guild of Blades still working on setting up their POD playing card production facilities? It might be worth contacting them about it anyway, if you need custom cards?

No word as yet on that I am

No word as yet on that I am afraid. Paul may be onto something with a recent discovery of printable cards at stationary box. More on that as we see if it will work out.
