Over on Gametime, the New Zealand RPG thought discussion community, there's an ongoing series of posts discussing romance, sex and love in RPGs.

And this War of the Worlds e-comic by Edgington and D'Israeli, is rather nice.

Comic

Destriarch's picture

The Edgington/Disraeli comic has been out for a while, and is also available in print. I liked it because it's faithful to the original book (with one minor alteration; the part attributed to the narrator's brother is given to the parson instead, presumably to avoid breaking the flow.) Very few adaptations of War of the Worlds have managed to stay faithful to that original. They also wrote a couple of sequels (see Scarlet Traces) which naturally weren't faithful to the original. Still, it's better treatment than the League of Extraordinary Gentlement gave the subject.

For reference

Hey Ash,

Just for future reference, these threads are purely for interesting links, rather than discussion of the links themselves. If there are topics that stem out of them , then a new thread somewhere is totally cool.

Actually, Malcolm...

...a short comment on an item should be OK, so long as it doesn't turn into a back-and-forth discussion.

After all, your mention of it was "I have just discovered this", which is fairly chatty and sociable to start with.

Maybe Not?

Joshua Newman asks if you really want to publish?

And Fred Hicks muses if you are brave enough?

Worth reading.

It's not a dare!

Man, I *really* don't want this to appear as some sort of challenge. Quite the opposite, really; it's important to me that people enjoy their creations and not get goaded into doing stuff that's not satisfying.

Do not fear!

I thought your article, and Fred's, were both well balanced pieces from established authors and publishers. They made for interesting reading and I recommend them to anyone who thinks they want to print their game.

Thanks Joshua

Being Human

Neil Gow's picture

BBC3, as part of it's new revamp thingy, has been running a series of pilots of new drama shows. The first, Phoo Action, was pretty cack. The second, Being Human, was awesome (and I mean that in the literal, non-hyperbolic sense of the word). Its the story of a Vampire, a Werewolf and a Ghost living together. Sort of (and this really doesn't do the series credit) 'Spaced meets Buffy'. It shifted effortlessly between some quite genre-predictable supernatural scenes to brit-sit-com stuff which all just seemed 'in story'. Moreover, I have yet to read a poor review of it from the masses, so it could be a front runner for the pilot that gets made into a series.

Its still being repeated on BBC3 late night and you can catch it until next Monday on BBCi player.

I heartily recommend it.

Pilots

Gregor Hutton's picture

BBC news item about Female Pilots in WWII. It kinda made me think of Jsaon Morningstar's Night Witches that I saw recently on Story Games. Obviously Jason's is on the Russian Front and more hardcore.

Anyway, I bet there were a few Cthulhu Investigator/Dilettante's among the pilots...

Pilots and Cthulhu

Incidentally, people interested in Gregor's post on female pilots (and their link to Cthulhu) might find the story of the disappearance of Amelia Earhart interesting. Disappearing female pilots certainly sounds like a good hook to me. Here's a link.
